Viña Sastre Pago de Santa Cruz Gran Reserva 2009 (1.5L)
Sourced from their premier vineyard (Pago de Santa Cruz), one of the oldest in the zone, at 900 meters. Every few years a remarkable vintage comes around and Jesus commemorates it with this Gran Reserva. Aged for 30 months in a selection of older oak barrels before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Aged for 30 months in 1 to 3 year old oak (65% French and 35% American) barrels ranging in size from 225L to 1,000L.
Violet in hue, supple tannins, and notes of perfectly ripe black and red fruits. The palate is balanced between alcohol, acid and high-quality tannins. Complex aromas of truffles, earth, and spices. All of these characteristics and the excellent harvest itself suggest a long aging potential for the very long 2011. Serve with a ribeye steak, wild mushroom confit with garlic and fresh herbs, or a grilled tenderloin.
