Located in located in La Serra d'Almos (Montsant), an ideal location to cultivate the Carignan grape (which this wine is mostly made from, at 70%, the remainder is Garnacha) making it a bit of an anomaly for the area. Many wines from here (at this great price point) are dominated by Garnacha instead. Carignan gives this wine an undeniably rustic and Mediterranean vibe meaning this is not the “juicy, fruity Côtes du Rhône-esque” style but something with a little more guts. Rich and complex, with a lengthy finish. Intense red and black fruit flavors are balanced with smooth tannins and fresh acidity. Very nice with a brisket, especially the yummy burnt ends part. Could also go nicely with char-grilled squid or pulpo and a romesco sauce. Hungry yet?
