La Vizcaína de Vinos (Raúl Pérez & César Pérez) "La del Vivo" Blanco 2017
Raúl Pérez is perhaps one of Spain’s most renowned winemakers. After beginning his career at the family winery, Castro Ventosa, he set his own career path and embarked on numerous projects. The Vizcaína de Vinos project was created in 2011 by Raúl and his nephew César Márquez and late niece, Nerea Pérez.
La del Vivo is a single-varietal white wine from the D.O Bierzo made with Godello. Manually harvested, it undergoes fermentation and is then aged for 12 months in the same second year oak barrels where fermentation took place. Only about 2,500 bottle production and can easily age and drink incredibly well for 8 years or more in bottle.
Very well-balanced, medium-body with some subtle white/yellow fruit, and a racy edge of acidity that cuts through nicely. Lingering on the palate, this wine will keep your attention sip after sip building on the flavors. Perfect with charred pulpo drizzled in spicy Spanish olive oil, with a potato and seafood stew, with chicken thighs and braised leeks. Limited supply.
