La Osa "Trasto Tinto" 2016

  • Following ten years of experience tending to the vineyards her brothers planted and working in her family’s winery, Bodegas Tampesta, the very dynamic Noelia de Paz is realizing her independent La Osa mission: Produce expressive, small production wines from her native DO Tierra de León. Noelia carefully elaborates some of Spain’s mostly harshly ignored varieties, such as Prieto Picudo (Tinto) and Albarín (Blanco).

    Here we have 100% Prieto Picudo hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel, with some whole cluster that produces a slight spontaneous carbonic maceration. It is aged for one year 85% in tank and 15% in 1 year old wood. Unlike many other wines made from this grape, this is a much more approachable style. It has juicy dark berries, lots of layers of spice and with a slight chill it could be your next BFF at a BBQ with a big pile of grilled burgers. Easy quaffing but with some dynamic structure.
