Jose Antonio García "Unculín" Tinto Mencía 2016 (1.5L)
Jose Antonio García and his wife Julia Peña García are creating Unculín. A fresh, vin de soif style Bierzo Mencía which offers an antidote to over-blown, internationally-styled wines previously made in the region. We were able to grab a few of the more rare Magnums they bottle and you definitely don’t want to miss them! From organically-grown, family-owned vineyards in the village of Valtuille de Abajo; 60 to 100-year-old traditional bush vines. Some of these vines are more than 200 years old.
Grapes are hand-picked, leaving stems on 30% of the bunches. Unculín undergoes a spontaneous fermentation by natural, indigenous yeast in large, neutral, French foudres with a 30-day maceration post-fermentation. Four months of aging on the fine-lees and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel without topping up. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal intervention. Bring a Mag, chill it a little, and enjoy at your next BYOB dinner or BBQ. It won’t last long on the table!
