If you've never heard of DO Costers del Segre, well...you’re not alone. A relatively new classified region on the far western side of Catalonia that has a long history with various international grapes and in local times it is also an area that has a huge focus on sustainability. Clos Pons is an organically-farmed winery (and olive oil farm) and the “Jan Petit” (named after the owner’s son) is a jazzy blend of 75% Syrah and 15% Garnacha aged for 6 months in French & American oak. Bold, with distinguished spice notes (thank you Syrah) and dark berries and melt into a smooth and warming finish. Insanely popular in the shop. Brisket, herbed sausage dishes, or short ribs over sun dried polenta would all pair rather nicely.
