We got a stupidly small amount of this wine and it is one of the most exciting things to come out of Cellar Frisch this year. As you may know, this is a relatively new series of “Zero-Zero” wines that our friend Francesc is making at Celler Frisach in DO Terra Alta. His family has historically been farming grapes in the region for over 200 years and he is continuing the tradition with organic practices, and in this case, not using any sulfur additives either. This comes from the “Mas de Sant Joan” vineyard, 40 year old vines, Panal soils @450m. Three weeks of carbonic maceration in stainless steel. One year in stainless, one in magnum. No filtration no nothing. Bush trained organically farmed vines and only 400 Mags total. A delicious “glou-glou” bottle to share with a couple of friends (really, like 2-3 friends ‘cause you’re going to want to drink all of this yourself) that can take a little chill and be consumed in a casual setting with (or without) food. Not too fruity, the carbo makes it softer and easy to sip, the grape Morenillo is a rare gem from northern Spain (almost extinct) that makes an almost “Pinot Noir”-esque wine with soft tannins and a friendly demeanor.
